Barum Hangout Youth Club

Now open on Monday evenings 7pm - 9pm
Ages 13-19 years. Admission free!

A new Youth Club in the town centre of Barnstaple at the Barnstaple Youth House. Currently running on Monday evenings only, but if it becomes a success then other times will be available.

The Club - Like-minded Young People with somewhere to go, a place to "Hangout" with your mates, make new friends, join in activities and be a part of something.

The Place - Barnstaple Youth House (BYH) is in the middle of town next to the Pannier Market. Different youth groups use the place during the daytime and some evenings but Monday nights are for you to come and enjoy.

The People - Anybody between the ages of 13 to 19 years old.

The Staff - The staff are all volunteers who want to give up their free time to provide Young People with something to do.

The Rules - The club doesn't have a set of rules as such, however, the club does expect respect, for the buildings, the staff, other users and eachother. BYH also has a "Users Code" which must be adhered to. (See below)

The Way Forward - In time we would like a commitee of Young People to have a say in running the club, what activities to run, what to spend money on, so on. If you are interested in having a say then let us know.

The Vision - A youthclub run by Young People with their own ideas, where they have fun, make friends and feel safe, with something to do and things to enjoy.

This club is very gratefully funded by the Local Network Fund until March 2007 and we are currently looking at other funders for the future. We have also received some money from PC World for equipment with which we bought a large screen tv and a camcorder.

BYH Users Code

All users to undertake to:

• Respect others at all times
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all users
• Actively involve young people in decision making processes
• Protect, maintain and develop the fabric of the building
• Promote positive images of young people

For reasons of health, safety and hygeine, BYH is a drug and alcohol free zone

Smoking is only permitted outside the building.

Any person believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be refused entry.
